Green roof training online manual/guide is now live here. This saturday will be our first green roof training session where the new guide will be given to the delegates. As the guide is now an online manual and not a pdf delegates will have access to what we hope will be a small green roof community across the globe.. The workshop is being run by myself and John Little on behalf of the London Wildlife Trust’s, Lost Effra Project.
Green Infrastructure for Living with Water
The workshop is part of the Lost Effra Projects ‘Living with Water series. Even small green DIY green roofs can make a significant impact on reducing flooding in flash flood hotspots. Therefore they are a form of green infrastructure that the public can deliver.

There are still a few places available for the workshop. The workshop will follow our successful format, which we have been running workshops for over 8 years to accompany the first edition pdf.
The green roof training workshop will be held at the London Wildlife Gardening Centre in Peckham/Dulwich on Saturday 4th October between 10.00 – 16.00. The green roof training is aimed at home owners with sheds, garages and extensions that could be green roofed. At the time of posting there are still a few places left. So if you are interested please contact the London Wildlife Trust project officer at – contact.
The workshop includes
- an introduction to small scale and DIY green roofs and there experience over the last 20 years or so.
- a practical workshop on how to construct a roof deck suitable for a small scale green roof, whether on an extension, a shed or other outside building
- the practical is also applicable for new small scale buildings
- detailed step by step guide from wood deck to plants
- open workshop on trainee projects
As part of the workshop, participants get to take away the section they construct during the workshop and also free access to the online guide.
So if you are in South London and want to know how to build a small scale green roof or what enough information to get a contractor to do it for you come along.
